1.&n= bsp;     Welcome and Introductions

a.&n= bsp;      Karen Stringer welcomed Keri S= herk as a guest to council

2.&n= bsp;     Minutes: March 2009

a.&n= bsp;      Minutes for March meeting approved as circulated.

b.&n= bsp;     Anthony requested that meeting minutes not be posted until approved by council.

3.&n= bsp;     Fitness Firm – Keri Sher= k

a.&n= bsp;      Proposal: To hold Kidfit Cardio classes at Glenvie= w Public School to ch= ildren in all grade level classes (7-14). Licence for Burlington has been purchased by The Fi= tness Firm. Two 45 min classes per week could contribute to total time required to fulfill QDF in one week at $1.50 per student per class. This would free up = teachers time for grade level planning etc.( Deborah advised that it is inherent in = the legislation that 20 mins exercise per day is re= quired with the attendance of minimum of one teacher )

Class combines fitness and martial arts.

Kerri circulated internet evidence regarding benefits of exercise to children.

Suggest trial in May and = June 2009 with formal program start in September 2009.

Keri informed the group t= hat council is currently supporting this program in a school in Dover. Mary Dilly advised regarding a r= ecent board decision which precludes the allocation of council fundraising dollar= s to support curriculum content.

Council attendees brainst= ormed regarding potential options and opportunities. Fun fair attendance was suggested as an opportunity to market the business.

4.&n= bsp;     Aldershot Hub Up= date: Sheila

a.&n= bsp;      Our Kids Network is based at Holy Rosary for entire community ( 0-18 years) to ensure that all child= ren have the opportunity to thrive in our community. Focus on practical family needs (food for life, food for thought, clothing etc) .= Holy Rosary has supported the hub through food and clothing drives. Unsubsidized afterschool program is available at the hub ($125 per week ). Partial subsidies available for March Break and Summer camps. Council suggested posting information on Hub web site which has a link from Gl= enview web site. Suggestion for Sheila to write a regular message in Glenview Communique. Sheila also spoke about a  June 4th worksho= p on food handling safety for parents.

5.&n= bsp;     Principals Report

a.&n= bsp;      Deborah acknowledged the volunteers for the teacher’s appreciation luncheon. This was a wonderful event and appreciated by all teachers. Teacher focussed learning critical pathway for March included a 6 week block on “inferencing”.  PD activity for April 24th will be focussed on developing individual learning plans whilst also develo= ping collaborative partnerships. Redevelopment of the book room was completed to facilitate all the new literacy supplies. The council supported IT supplies= and maps have been ordered. Tribes Assembly: Each student has been cross graded= to establish same-lesson teams. Each team is currently determining their name = and creating their own banner. Earth Day: Created wonderful school excitement. = Peer Mediators: Training complete ( 8 girls from grad= e 6). Learning has been focussed on how to communicate with students. The mediato= rs will be presenting this at the next assembly. The mediators will be identif= ied on the playground and will assist the students in problem resolution. Facebook: Presentation booked for students in June an= d for parents at Aldershot in September. Volun= teer tea is May 18th. Spring concert booked for April 28th= and 29th ( matinee and evening show ). Gr= ade 6 graduation is booked for June 23rd. Glenview enrolment numbers have been submitted. Ten= tative 4 teacher surplus ( part time ) at this point. M= ust adhere to 20 students: 1 teacher ratio ( to Grad= e 3 ) therefore the class breakdown will be circulated in the next newsletter.

6.&n= bsp;     Treasurer Report:

a.&n= bsp;      Current account balance is $21,409.26

b.&n= bsp;     Fun Fair: Last years expenditures have been current= ly budgeted for June fun fair. June 5th date booked with rain date = for June 11th. Pre-order form will also be provided for parents. Bob= bie Williams has requested to have a table at the fun fair to assist her in her fundraising efforts for her walk for breast cancer. To ensure transparency = and equity, council will apply same vendor policy to this request.

7.&n= bsp;     Constitution Recommendation:

a.&n= bsp;      Suggestion for the sub committee to meet again to review the draft constitution. Jackie Oxley has graciously provided feedbac= k on the document.

8.&n= bsp;     Safety at Glenview

a.&n= bsp;      Traffic Study Report: Please provide any feedback to Karen Stringer who will ensure your feedback is provided to the committee (April 27th) prior to any decisions being made.
